The AHL season is officially a month in and the Milwaukee Admirals are off to a hot start. Through 14 games the Admirals have a record of 10-2-1-1 and have gotten a total of 22 out of a possible 28 points. Currently the Ads are 1st place in the Western Conference and 2nd place in the AHL behind the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (12-3-1-0) The Ads are led by forward Matt White who has been white hot as of late. In 11 games White has gotten 12 points (7 Goals 5 Assists) and averages 1.09 points per game. Along with White, rookie defenseman Alexandre Carrier has also been putting up great numbers. Through 14 games Carrier also has 12 points (3 Goals 9 Assists) and has also been very disciplined defensively. Recently the Admirals have gotten back forward Kevin Fiala from Nashville (NHL) who has 6 points in 5 games. Fiala put up very impressive numbers last season, where he had 50 points in 66 games with 18 goals and 38 assists . However, Fiala has been very undisciplined. In just 5 games Fiala has 10 penalty minutes, with most of those coming in crucial late game situations.

In addition to the strong offense, the Admirals are backed by outstanding goal tending. Juuse Saros is currently 3rd and has put up amazing numbers so far in the AHL. Saros has a record of 8-1 with a 1.65 Goals Against Average (GAA) along with a .943 save percentage. Last year Saros had a record of 29-8-0 with a 2.24 GAA and was dominant most of the season. Saros has been very strong in net as of late. In a 2 game road stand against the defending Calder Cup champion Cleveland Monsters, Saros stopped a total of 65 out of 66 shots which included a 35 save shutout against Cleveland on November 17th. Saros is also 1-0 in the NHL this season where he stopped a total of 34 out of 35 shots in Nashville’s win against the defending Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins. With the way Saros is playing it wouldn’t be surprising if the Predators called Saros back up in the near future. If that would happen Nashville would most likely send down goaltender Marek Mazanec who was 19-15-5 last season and is 1-0-1 with a 3.90 GAA.

The Admirals are currently on a 8 game point streak and look to continue that as they return home to the UWM Panther Arena as they face off against division rival Grand Rapids Griffins on Wednesday and the Manitoba Moose on Saturday. Tickets are available at www.milwaukeeadmirals.com or at the UWM Panther Arena box office.
